Unaltered

The file matches its signed record.

The seal is valid, and nothing has changed since the shutter was pressed.

Tampered

The file no longer matches its signed record.

The file carries a genuine LightSeal seal, but the photo or video was edited after it was sealed.

Inconclusive

There is no seal LightSeal can check.

Common causes: a chat app compressed it, it is a screenshot or re-save, or it was not shot with LightSeal. That does not prove tampering.

LightSeal checks file integrity. It does not prove that the scene was real or rule out photographing another image.

Content Credentials bind the original file to its signed record. LightSeal uses the C2PA standard for photo and video credentials, with Apple App Attest to verify the LightSeal issuer.
